Hannah Tweddle – Principal

Butterflies began as Butterfly School of Dance in 1999, founded by Hannah Whiston and her sister Rachel. Miss Hannah has been sole Principal of the school since 2009.

Qualified to Membership level in Ballet, Modern and Tap and accredited to teach GCSE and A Level Dance, Miss Hannah aims to provide students of all ages with experiences in dance that they can enjoy for the moment or take further to develop a career in dance.

Previous students have gone on to study dance at leading academies and universities throughout the country and subsequently have begun careers in the world of theatre, dance and entertainment.

Miss Hannah has choreographed annual productions at Thirsk School and volunteered in every Dramathon, either as a pupil or volunteer teacher for 20 years. She has previously taught GCSE Dance at Northallerton College and GCSE Dance at Barlby High School. The new studio has been Miss Hannah’s dream since starting the school and after working in hired halls, schools and a run down upstairs studio in Thirsk for 16 years, Hannah is delighted to be able to provide a purpose built dance space for students to enjoy.
