About us
Butterflies Dance and Performing Arts was founded in 1999 by Rachel and Hannah Whiston. The school has grown from strength to strength over the years and continues to develop and advance for the benefit of its students. The school continues to be friendly and family focussed, creating a safe and warm environment for students to develop their dance skills and confidence.
Mission Statement
We aim to provide a safe and friendly environment, where students of all ages and abilities can learn and develop their talents in all aspects of Performing Arts. To create a positive and warm setting in which to encourage individual passion and spirit for the arts.
Our Facilities
Purchased in 2007, the former police cells were maintained by Butterflies and used for storage until 2014 when planning was granted to demolish the site and rebuild our purpose-built state of the art performance centre. We aim to facilitate new and old classes for all ages and abilities in a comfortable, safe and inspiring setting. Set back from the road, in the heart of the thriving town of Thirsk, we boast a safe and inviting entrance, welcoming you day and night. The building is up-to-date with the latest in safety technology and fire systems to ensure the comfort and reassurance of all our customers. There are plenty of available parking spaces only a short distance away. Disabled parking is available on site by request; please contact us to facilitate the use of this space.
The facilities include purpose-designed dance studios, acoustic live lounge, wardrobe, dressing room and a quiet study area for those working on exams with Butterflies. Please see the gallery for more information and photos.
Our Staff
Our members of staff are professional, friendly and passionate about the quality and running of Butterflies Dance and Performing Arts. Our office staff help in the day today running of the school, and ensure all staff and facilities are up to date with correct procedures in place. Theses staff members are also responsible for the advertising and organising of events here at Butterflies. Office staff also are the link to our parents, ensuring they are kept both up to date and happy with all we are offering. Our teaching members of staff are all experienced within their discipline and passionate about the learning and development of each and every student. Our staff members are all First Aid trained and are briefed upon fire and health and safety information for our facilities. We highly value all our member of staff as they make up a huge proportion of all that we do here at Butterflies.
Our Charity 2017
Here at Butterflies we like to give back, which has lead to us supporting a different charity each year. To support our chosen charity we host and organise events to raise money throughout the year. This year we are fundraising in support of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and will hopefully raise money towards a local defibrillator and towards scanning young people for this disease. If you would like to donate to this cause then please do so through our page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Butterflies123 or keep up to date with us on Facebook, or at the studio to hear about fundraising events we may be hosting soon.
Thank you.
